SustainaBlue - HEIS stands for Higher Education Institutes

Project Overview

Our project is dedicated to empowering Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Malaysia and Indonesia by enhancing their alignment with the labor market and societal needs. By fostering a sustainable blue economy and promoting a green transition, we aim to create a lasting impact on these regions.

Key Activities

  • Strengthening Teaching Staff Skills: Improving HEI teaching staff's expertise in blue skills curriculum and teaching methods.
  • Enhancing Stakeholder Cooperation: Building HEI staff capacity to engage and collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Promoting HEI-Industry Cooperation: Bridging the gap between HEIs and industries to address skill mismatches and promote relevant education.
  • Modernizing Academic Offerings: Updating HEI academic programs to align with the demands of the blue economy.
  • Transferring Research to Communities: Ensuring that HEI research benefits coastal communities through practical applications.
  • Improving Student Skills: Equipping students with the necessary skills for employment in the blue economy.
  • Reskilling and Upskilling Workers: Providing opportunities for blue industry workers to reskill or upskill for better career prospects.
  • Raising Awareness: Increasing awareness about sustainable blue careers and opportunities, particularly among women.

Main Initiatives

  • Establishing Sustainable Blue Economy Centres: Creating centers and networks for collaboration between HEIs, blue industries, and other stakeholders.
  • Analyzing Skills Needs: Conducting thorough analyses to identify the skills required in sectors related to the sustainable blue economy.
  • Developing a Regional Blue & Green Acceleration Platform: Operating a platform to accelerate the blue and green transition through innovative solutions and collaborations.
  • Capacity Building for HEI Staff: Providing comprehensive training and development programs for HEI staff to enhance their capabilities.
  • Developing and Piloting New Courses: Creating and testing new courses focused on high-demand blue skills to develop talent among students and the current workforce.
  • Facilitating Knowledge Transfer and Awareness: Promoting the understanding of sustainable blue economy opportunities through knowledge transfer and awareness programs for local communities and HEI students.

By implementing these activities and initiatives, the project aims to:
